TOREI Sustainability

Basic Concept

Global social and environmental issues such as climate change, resource issues, and human rights issues are intricately interrelated and continue to grow day by day. Against this background, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were set out as a vision for the world by 2030 to address major economic, social, and environmental challenges. Companies are expected to proactively tackle these issues, contribute to a sustainable society, and achieve sustainable growth themselves.
Since its founding, TOREI has operated as a company that brings the bounty of the sea to people's tables. Since 2006, we have adopted an "Environmental Management Policy," obtained Eco Action 21 certification, and have been working on various environment-related action plans. However, as global problems and social risks grow, we will be required to move more quickly and conduct sustainable management and business activities in the future.
While focusing on solving various social issues, TOREI will work together as a group to achieve its mission of "sustainable and stable supply of marine resources," which is the foundation of its business, and will work in cooperation with all stakeholders to further promote sustainable management so that the blessings of the sea can be sustained for future generations.

Environmental Management Report

At TOREI, we strive to improve the sustainability of our business by considering environmental, social, and economic sustainability. To raise awareness of our efforts, we prepare and publish an environmental management report every year.

Environmental Management Policy

The Environmental Management Policy lays out the basic principles regarding environmental management and initiatives based on the TOREI Group's business philosophy and has been established as a pledge to society. In addition to setting basic principles, the Environmental Management Policy defines priority activities and areas based on our business activities, leading to the formulation of medium- to long-term action plans and targets. Our environmental management policy is reviewed at the end of each fiscal year to determine whether it needs to be revised. Additionally, we have formulated separate "Environmental Management Goals" and "Environmental Management Plans" as specific action plans for realizing our environmental management policies.

Environmental Management Policy

● Basic Philosophy

Based on the understanding that a company cannot survive without considering the global environment, we will contribute to the development of a better society and actively and sincerely work to protect and improve the global environment in all of our corporate activities, including purchasing, processing, manufacturing, storage, logistics, sales, and services.

● Priority areas for environmental initiatives

  1. 1. We will always be aware of the environmental aspects of our business activities, promote the reduction of environmental burdens, including greenhouse gas emissions, and strive for continuous improvement in sustainable management.
  2. 2. We will comply with all environmental laws and regulations and act in accordance with international norms of behavior. We will identify and analyze environmental risks associated with our business activities, such as violations of environment-related laws and regulations and environmental accidents, and will formulate policies for dealing with those risks and establish rules, systems, etc. as necessary.
  3. 3. We will work to reduce the environmental impact of our business activities based on the following principles, setting action targets for each item that are rooted in our corporate activities, and promoting environmental activities with the participation of all employees.
    1. ① We will strive to use resources such as electricity, water, and materials efficiently and reduce their usage.
    2. ② Take preventive measures to prevent pollutants that exceed standard values from leaking outside.
    3. ③ We will reduce the generation of waste generated during the production process and promote recycling.
    4. ④ We will keep track of the amount of chemical substances used and strive to manage them appropriately.
    5. ⑤ We will grasp the amount of energy used in the storage and distribution of products and work to reduce it.
    6. ⑥ Prevent leakage of refrigerants used in refrigeration equipment, and choose equipment that uses natural refrigerants when updating major equipment.
    7. ⑦ By implementing the above measures, we will reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
  4. 4. We will be aware that our business activities depend on marine and other living resources, mitigate our impact on biodiversity, contribute to its conservation, and strive to use all resources sustainably.
  5. 5. We will raise the environmental awareness of all people who work in or for our organization, engage in environmental activities, cooperate with local communities and society, disclose corporate information related to sustainable management and the environment in a timely and appropriate manner, and promote communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.
  6. 6. To check the implementation status of this policy, an internal audit will be conducted once a year.

Environmental Management System

We recognize that "achieving sustainable management," one of our business philosophy, leads to increased corporate value, and have established an environmental management system to implement the PDCA cycle for specific environmental management measures to achieve this goal. We strive for continuous improvement.

Eco Action 21

TOREI and TFL(※) have acquired Eco Action 21, an Environmental Management System (EMS) unique to Japan formulated by the Ministry of the Environment, and undergo an annual third-party audit to evaluate the status of compliance with requirements. By adopting the Environmental Management System based on Eco Action 21, we are not only complying with environmental laws, but also creating a system for continuous situation improvement and preparing manuals for environmental response, which not only improves environmental awareness within the company but also has a ripple effect on external stakeholders.
