In 2018, while legislation to promote work style reform progressed, TOREI's processing plants and distribution sites were faced with the problem of a shortage of workers, as some of the work was physically demanding in low temperatures. Among the IoT and AI technologies that are undergoing technological innovation, we will proactively introduce usable technologies, develop a safe working environment by saving manpower and labor in on-site work, and improve the efficiency of company-wide operations. By doing so, we aim to improve economic productivity and corporate value.

work remotely

Since more than half of our employees work at factories and other sites, we have not introduced a telecommuting system. However, taking advantage of the COVID-19 crisis, we introduced a telecommuting system on a trial basis in December 2020. After hearing the merits and demerits of telecommuting from each department, we will establish a full-scale telecommuting system from January 2022. and has been put to practical use.

digitalization

TOREI has been promoting digitalization in recent years. In 2021, a system will be developed so that documents can be stamped and circulated on a PC. We have achieved efficiency in many ways, such as supporting telecommuting and going paperless. Also, in 2022, we have renewed our new core system. Through the full-scale introduction of cloud services, we aim to improve the efficiency of operations through information sharing and functional coordination by consolidating functions that used to be separately used in various systems into a single platform.

mechanization

Frozen tuna is hard and heavy, and processing equipment is often large and high-output. Therefore, we are currently working with a manufacturer to develop equipment to mechanize the tasks of peeling the tuna and splitting it into quarters. By mechanizing the processing work, it is possible to allocate personnel to other work, which can be expected to improve production efficiency.

KAIZEN activities

TOREI has introduced KAIZEN activities from 2021 in order to "create a company that can actively act and realize business reforms". This activity is a system that rewards business improvement achieved by employees' "ideas, ingenuity, and efforts" according to the effect and uniqueness of the content. The president's award, executive officer's award, department/place manager's award will be selected.
